A tap is an indispensable tool for the precise creation of internal threads in metal, plastic, and other solid materials. Also known as a tapping drill, screw tap, or thread cutting drill, our taps offer the highest quality and precision for mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and private applications.

Thread tapping is one of the most common methods for creating internal threads. Although thread production may seem like a straightforward process, errors can occur due to the incorrect selection of the tap for the material being machined. This step usually occurs at the end of the manufacturing process, making reliable execution crucial. A tool breakage during thread cutting can negate the entire value creation. Universally applicable threading tools with higher performance and longer tool life are therefore essential to meet these requirements.

Depending on the machining requirements, different versions of thread taps are necessary. In our range, we offer, among others, the following variants:

  • Thread taps with and without internal cooling, with internal cooling enhancing chip removal.
  • Thread tools with tolerances of 6HX, 6GX (oversize tolerance), and 2BX.

Our PM (Powder Metallurgy) tap drills enable sustainable optimization of demanding machining tasks, while HSS-E (High-Speed Steel with Cobalt) tap drills exhibit good properties in terms of plastic deformability, toughness, and wear resistance.

The HSS-PM high-performance tap drills from our Professional Line impress with an extremely smooth high-performance coating of exceptional hardness. Thanks to their innovative geometry, they are versatile and suitable for a wide range of materials and various types of machines, including those with synchronized spindles, tension and compression compensation chucks, and thread cutting machines. They ensure the highest machining performance and process reliability with optimal chip removal.

The improved thread surface not only ensures significantly higher process reliability but also leads to a longer thread life. The service life of an HSS-PM tap drill can be 30 to 70% higher, depending on the material being machined. In addition, HSS-PM tap drills enable higher cutting speeds, which further saves time and costs in machining.
