The abbreviation HSS stands for "High Speed Steel," a high-performance high-speed processing steel that serves as the base material for these metal drills.
HSS drills are characterized by their very high hardness and heat resistance. They allow for cutting speeds up to four times higher compared to ordinary tool steel and retain their hardness even at temperatures of approximately 600°C. Through a special heat treatment process, where the steel is annealed at over 1,200°C and then quenched, they achieve these exceptional properties.
